Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Kennedy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Menzies! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kennedy moves into the clinch. Kennedy gets control of Menzies's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kennedy will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Kennedy controls Menzies momentarily but Menzies frees himself. Kennedy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Menzies can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Menzies throwing strikes but missing. Kennedy can't keep his opponent in guard - Menzies advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Menzies looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Menzies wants to take a breather but Kennedy is having none of it. Kennedy pushes Menzies off looking to stand but Menzies dives back in and keeps control.
Menzies is controlling the pace.
Menzies trying to advance position but Kennedy counters by regaining guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kennedy is trying to keep Menzies in close.
Kennedy looking for a guillotine here but Menzies defends easily.
Menzies works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kennedy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Menzies trying to control the position from guard on top but Kennedy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kennedy looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Menzies is defending well. Kennedy quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Menzies has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kennedy celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
