Santiago has chosen You're Going Down as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Santiago!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Santiago counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Santiago seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Patterson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Santiago wants to pass to mount but Patterson is defending the position.
Patterson manages to get to full guard.
Patterson wants to sweep here but Santiago controlling him for the moment.
Santiago wants to control from the top but Patterson keeps moving.
Patterson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Santiago is one step ahead there.
Santiago trying to control the position from guard on top but Patterson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Santiago slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Patterson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Santiago has passed into side control.
Patterson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Santiago in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Patterson's coaches at Weed Nation have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Patterson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Patterson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Patterson.
Santiago must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Patterson tries to roll over but Santiago keeps him under control.
Still in half guard, Santiago seems content to control.
Santiago's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Santiago passes the guard and advances to mount!

Santiago breaks from Patterson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Patterson tries to reverse the position but Santiago maintains control.
Santiago postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Patterson looks a forlorn figure.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santiago with the ground and pound from mount.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Patterson is desperately trying to improve his position but Santiago has a good base and remains in mount.

Santiago looking to finish Patterson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Patterson!


Patterson is rocked!
Santiago lands a big shot to the head and Patterson winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
