PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Trey Danforth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Saffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saffy has chosen Still Unbroken as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trey Danforth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Saffy!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Danforth leaves Saffy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Danforth moves into the clinch.
Danforth has Saffy pushed against the cage.

Saffy gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Danforth regains guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Saffy trying to control the position from guard on top but Danforth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Danforth is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Saffy defends well.
Danforth working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Saffy.
Saffy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Saffy wants to pass the guard but Danforth is keeping the position.
Saffy's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Saffy gets to his feet. Danforth looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
A head kick misses from Danforth.
Saffy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Danforth moves away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Saffy.
Danforth throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Danforth wants to control but Saffy postures up.
Danforth seems a little lost for a moment, as Saffy dominates the positioning.

Saffy controls the position.
Danforth is looking for a sweep.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Danforth throws the kick towards the body but Saffy avoids it.
Josh Saffy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Danforth clinches.
Danforth jumps guard but Saffy stands there with Danforth around his waist. Danforth gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Saffy is working for takedown but Danforth is calmly controlling the position for now.
Saffy prevents Danforth from breaking the clinch.

Saffy works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Danforth has his foot on Saffy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Saffy works his way back into a safe position though.
Danforth is breathing heavily.

Danforth looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Saffy passes into side control.

Saffy tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Danforth is looking for a sweep.

Saffy has an Americana. Danforth didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Saffy is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Saffy hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Josh Saffy!
After the fight, Josh Saffy was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
