Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Dougherty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John MacTavish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John MacTavish is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Dougherty! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John MacTavish! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dougherty tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but MacTavish swivels and escapes. Dougherty clinches up with MacTavish and pushes him back against the cage. MacTavish is trying to break the clinch but Dougherty is controlling him. MacTavish wants to get back to striking at distance but Dougherty won't allow it.
Dougherty pulls guard effortlessly. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Dougherty has his hands on MacTavish's head, controlling the position. MacTavish really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dougherty. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Dougherty is looking to stand up but MacTavish isn't so interested in that idea. MacTavish throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dougherty works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. MacTavish missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. MacTavish postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dougherty is adopting a defensive guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dougherty striking off his back but it's not causing MacTavish any problems. MacTavish got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dougherty has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, MacTavish has managed to get both his arms back between Dougherty's legs - danger averted. Dougherty throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
MacTavish in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Dougherty trying to control the position here. MacTavish content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. MacTavish won't allow Dougherty to get back to his feet. Dougherty manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. MacTavish manages to get himself to full guard.
Dougherty content to stall in guard here. This has been an exciting period of action! Dougherty prevents MacTavish from getting back to his feet. Dougherty slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Dougherty seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down MacTavish for as long as he can get away with.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Ricky Dougherty just wasn't active enough. Dougherty drives through and clinches with MacTavish against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dougherty lands on the inside with an uppercut. Dougherty's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. MacTavish fails in his attempt to clinch. MacTavish gets caught napping as Dougherty dives in and scores a takedown. MacTavish manages to retain guard. Dougherty won't allow MacTavish to sweep him here. Dougherty looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Dougherty slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's four minutes gone in the round. MacTavish wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Dougherty stands up and we're back to a striking position. Dougherty closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. MacTavish quickly recovers to half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dougherty throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Dougherty is looking for a kimura but MacTavish is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dougherty to get the leverage. Dougherty controlling the action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Dougherty dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Dougherty moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. John MacTavish seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. MacTavish misses with a looping right. MacTavish throws a one two combo.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Dougherty misses with a takedown attempt and MacTavish counters with a nice uppercut. Dougherty looks to land a combination but MacTavish avoids it well. No luck with that takedown attempt from Dougherty. Dougherty ducks under a wild hook from MacTavish. Dougherty fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricky Dougherty. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dougherty scores with a push kick. Dougherty fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ricky Dougherty is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Dougherty moves into range and clinches up with MacTavish. MacTavish wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dougherty has him pressed against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. MacTavish is trying to break free. MacTavish is trying to break the clinch but Dougherty has him pressed against the cage. Dougherty avoiding damage.
Dougherty has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. MacTavish is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Dougherty pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. John MacTavish seems to be getting the better of the standup. Dougherty ducks under a wild hook from MacTavish. Dougherty dives in and grabs MacTavish's left leg, looking for a takedown. MacTavish pushes down on Dougherty's head and hops out. Nice body kick from Dougherty. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dougherty is defended easily by MacTavish. MacTavish tries to clinch up but Dougherty circles away and keeps his distance. Dougherty changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. MacTavish tries to avoid it but Dougherty manages to keep hold of a leg and drag MacTavish to the ground. MacTavish escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Dougherty shoots in and drives through. MacTavish sprawls well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. MacTavish missing with a left hand there. Dougherty was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Dougherty showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from MacTavish.
MacTavish throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dougherty. Dougherty has closed the distance and engaged MacTavish in a clinch.
Dougherty has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. MacTavish is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Dougherty is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. MacTavish looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! MacTavish working hard to break the clinch. The referee is keeping an eye on Dougherty - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
MacTavish tries to circle away but Dougherty has him pinned against the cage. Dougherty pulls guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. MacTavish is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Dougherty has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. MacTavish is looking to defend but Dougherty has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for MacTavish! Dougherty pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, MacTavish taps out and this one is all over!
