PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Sanches (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar comes into the arena with Enae Volare Mezzo blaring out of the sound system. Sanches has chosen Breaking Benjamin - Ordinary Man as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Fedor Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Renato Sanches!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanches rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lesnar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sanches throws a big shot that misses.
Sanches thows a body shot but no joy.
Sanches has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Lesnar is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Sanches slips a jab from Lesnar.
Lesnar throws a series of punches but Sanches avoids them all with ease.
Lesnar slips a jab and a cross from Sanches.
A slow jab from Sanches misses its intended target.
Nice uppercut there from Lesnar.
Lesnar scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Sanches throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sanches misses with a wild body shot.
Lesnar misses with a few strikes there.
Lesnar fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sanches misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lesnar.

Lesnar tests Sanches's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Lesnar swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sanches lands a right hook to the body.
Sanches pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sanches throws a good cross that connects.
Renato Sanches seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sanches throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Renato Sanches is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Sloppy strikes from Lesnar. Those never looked like landing.

Sanches throws out a loose jab but Lesnar uses good head movement to avoid it.

Sanches lands a big uppercut and Lesnar crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Lesnar looks OK. Sanches waves Lesnar back to his feet!


Lesnar is rocked!
Lesnar checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Oh Lesnar is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sanches displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lesnar throws out the jab.
Lesnar seems to have got his legs back now.
Sanches lands a leg kick that knocks Lesnar off balance momentarily.
Sanches is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Lesnar rather than just go for the knockout.

Lesnar fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sanches to the ground. Lesnar is now in Sanches's guard.
Lesnar tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanches is retaining full guard.
Lesnar trying to control but Sanches is working from the bottom.
Sanches trying to keep a closed guard but Lesnar is proving a slippery customer.

Lesnar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sanches manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lesnar has Sanches in his guard.

Sanches got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lesnar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sanches has managed to get both his arms back between Lesnar's legs - danger averted.

Lesnar is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanches wants to get up but he can't break Lesnar's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Lesnar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Lesnar wants to take a breather but Sanches is having none of it.
Lesnar thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lesnar is trying to work for a kimura but Sanches is defending well.
Sanches is refusing to be controlled, as Lesnar sits in half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sanches tries to roll over but Lesnar keeps him under control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are battling for position here. Sanches manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Renato Sanches dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sanches is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lesnar.
Sanches throws a jab but it's blocked by Lesnar.
Sanches bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sanches lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Sanches throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lesnar on the side of the head.
No luck for Lesnar with that takedown attempt.
Lesnar misses with the combination.

Sanches feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Lesnar sprawling to the canvas! Lesnar rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Sanches finish him?!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sanches tries to bum rush Lesnar with a series of wild strikes but Lesnar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sanches has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sanches there as he acknowledges the shot.

Sanches throws a right hand that misses
and Lesnar counters with a straight right hand.
Lesnar darts in looking for a takedown but Sanches gets double underhooks and turns Lesnar into the cage.
Sanches misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Sanches scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Lesnar is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fedor Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanches misses with a hook to the ribs.
Lesnar has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sanches is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sanches lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Sanches tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Lesnar successfully pulls guard.
Lesnar is trying to control the position but Sanches postures up.
Lesnar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lesnar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sanches is one step ahead there.

Fedor Lesnar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sanches must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lesnar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sanches manages to get himself to full guard.

Lesnar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lesnar stands up over Sanches, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Sanches swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Lesnar.
Lesnar throws a combination. Sanches tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Lesnar checks a low kick from Sanches.
Sanches lets loose with a powerful body kick. Lesnar will feel that in the morning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sanches drops Lesnar with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Lesnar looks back up at him and smiles so Sanches waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Lesnar misses with a two punch combination.
Sanches looks to throw the jab but Lesnar is out of range.
Lesnar tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sanches.

Lesnar dives in for a single leg takedown but Sanches sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sanches pushes Lesnar back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Lesnar bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Lesnar avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Sanches throws a looping overhand right but Lesnar ducks down to avoid it.
Lesnar tests Sanches's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Sanches thuds a left hand into Lesnar's body.
Fedor Lesnar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sanches misses with a straight right.
Sanches throws a quick inside leg kick.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Sanches - that will leave a mark!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sanches feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Lesnar sprawling to the canvas! Lesnar rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Sanches finish him?!
Sanches throws a nice inside leg kick.
Sanches digs a good body shot into Lesnar's ribs.
Sanches cracks Lesnar with a hook to the temple - Lesnar is on wobbly legs here! Sanches swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Lesnar falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Sanches wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Renato Sanches!
After winning the bout, Renato Sanches thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
