Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lyoto Machida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Young! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machida gets a double leg takedown into Young's guard. Machida won't allow Young to get back to his feet. Machida engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Young looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Machida wanted to stand there but Young had control of the position. Machida is fighting to break Young's control of his arms but Young is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We're going to have a standup here because Lyoto Machida wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Machida throws a lazy head kick and Young counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Young is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Machida is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Machida has escaped and now he's on top! Machida is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Young wants to stand but Machida is controlling the position. Young keeping moving, preventing Machida from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Machida loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Machida content to stall in guard here. Machida will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lyoto Machida. Young tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Machida dives in and grabs Young's left leg, looking for a takedown. Young pushes down on Machida's head and hops out. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Young!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Young throws a sloppy head kick and Machida counters with a head kick. That will keep Young thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Machida misses with a takedown and Young counters with a nice body kick.
Lyoto Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Machida shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Young counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyoto Machida. That's going to take a lot out of him. Machida is breathing heavily. Young looks to land a combination but Machida avoids it well. Machida manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Young on his heels. He'll look to pass Young's guard now, I'm sure. Machida trying to control the position from guard on top but Young is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Machida postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Young wriggles free and stands up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Young keeps the fight on the outside. Machida shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Young pinned against the cage. Young gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. A right-left combo lands from Young. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. A kick lands to the mid section there for Young. Young throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Josh Young will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Young shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Machida moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Young trying to control the position from guard on top but Machida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Young controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Young missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Young would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Machida wants to sweep here but Young controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Young won't allow Machida to get back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Josh Young has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Machida tries for a takedown but Young circles away easily and Young counters with a left to the body. Machida blocks a head kick by Young.

Machida really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Machida misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Young scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Young lands strikes from half guard. Young seems to be working for a kimura but Machida defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Young missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Josh Young has got the better of the ground game so far. Young is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Machida defends it well. Machida gets full guard. Young gets to his feet - Machida follows without any prompting. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Young keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Machida fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyoto Machida. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Young rushes Machida and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Young pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Machida is trying hard to land a takedown here. Young sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Young lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Machida is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Young. Young throws a nice head kick!
Machida shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Young as he jumps to the side.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Young lands with a nice combination. Machida backs away looking to recover. Young goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Machida displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Young. Machida closes the distance and clinches up with Young, looking for a takedown. Machida pushes Young against the cage but Young circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Young lands a two punch combo.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A kick lands to the mid section there for Machida. Young lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh Young showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Young stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Young wants it to stay on the feet. Machida misses with a takedown attempt and Young counters with a lovely straight right hand! Young scores with a one two! Machida had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Machida is rocked! Young throws a sloppy head kick and Machida moves out of range easily. Machida scores with a takedown into Young's guard. Machida trying to control the position from guard on top but Young is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Young is pulling down on Machida's head to control his posture. Machida missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Machida looking to pass the guard. Young is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Young clinches. Young with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Machida takes a shot to the head. Machida takes a knee to the side of the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Machida trying to stall but Young improves his position.
Young gets underhooks to prevent Machida's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyoto Machida. That's going to take a lot out of him. Young throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Machida blocks it with crossed arms. Young breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Young feints and as Machida raises his hands in defense, Young changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Young tries to stand but Machida is controlling from the bottom. Young sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Machida's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Young throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Machida to regain full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machida wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Young stands and steps away. Machida gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Machida gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Young counters with a nice kick to the body. Young looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Machida misses with a takedown attempt and Young counters with a single leg into guard. Machida didn't expect that. Machida looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Young has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Machida is proving hard to escape from. Machida will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Machida looking to hit a scissor sweep but Young is one step ahead there. Young must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Machida is trying to control the position but Young postures up. Josh Young is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Lyoto Machida wasn't doing enough on the ground. Young feints a jab promting Machida to slip. Young then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Machida slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Machida swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Young counters with a one-two to the body. Lyoto Machida has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Young forces Machida back against the cage and clinches.
And that's the end of the fight! Josh Young comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Young has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
