PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dlan Wrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mashed Spuds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dlan Wrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mashed Spuds!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spuds circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wrong moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Wrong stuffs the takedown.

Spuds has Wrong up against the cage in a clinch.
Spuds jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wrong walks away with a smile on his face. Spuds gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Spuds throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wrong misses with a takedown attempt - Spuds sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Spuds fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Spuds pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wrong connects with a body shot that sends Spuds's belly button to the back.
Wrong could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Spuds tries to keep at a distance but Wrong has taken the fight into the clinch.

Spuds decides to pull guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Wrong throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Spuds works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Spuds can do anything to dispel that myth.

Spuds has his foot on Wrong's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wrong works his way back into a safe position though.

Wrong drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wrong jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spuds wants to sweep here but Wrong controlling him for the moment.
Spuds is still trying to improve position.

Wrong decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Spuds shoots for a takedown but Wrong saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dlan Wrong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mashed Spuds.

Spuds closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wrong to the mat! Wrong manages to get full guard.

Wrong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Wrong wants to stand but Spuds is controlling the position.
Spuds seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Spuds lands a nice looking body shot.

Spuds closes the distance and clinches.

Spuds escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wrong has a takedown stuffed.
Wrong is breathing heavily.
Wrong closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spuds circles away.

Wrong throws a left and a right that both miss

and Spuds holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Spuds tries to score a body lock takedown but Wrong shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Spuds is looking to take this one to the mat.
Spuds has Wrong pressed against the cage, preventing Wrong from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Wrong wants to break free but Spuds has control.
Wrong has had enough of the clinch but Spuds keeps him there for the moment.

Spuds breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wrong lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Spuds circles away quickly and effectively.
Wrong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Spuds's jab looks to have found its range, popping Wrong under the eye.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mashed Spuds will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spuds lands a decent shot there.

Spuds manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wrong manages to get himself to full guard.
Spuds wants to control from the top but Wrong keeps moving.

Wrong is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Spuds slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Wrong controls Spuds momentarily but Spuds frees himself.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mashed Spuds hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Wrong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spuds's waist but Spuds gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wrong off to one side.

Spuds moves in looking to clinch but Wrong pushes him off.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Horrible takedown by Spuds or perhaps it was just good defense by Wrong which made him look bad.

Spuds looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Spuds stands up out of the half guard.
Spuds shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wrong as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mashed Spuds showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Spuds closes the distance and pushes Wrong back into the cage.
Wrong fails to pull guard.

Spuds shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Spuds was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Spuds stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Spuds clinches up with Wrong and pushes him back against the cage.

Wrong jumps guard and drags Spuds to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mashed Spuds has got the better of the ground game so far.

Spuds is working Wrong over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Spuds lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Wrong down.

Spuds moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Wrong wants to get back to his feet but Spuds drags him back down.
Spuds cracks Wrong with a big right hand but Wrong just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Wrong takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Spuds decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Spuds moves into the clinch.

Spuds breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Spuds scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Spuds controls the position.
Spuds's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mashed Spuds comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Spuds has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
