The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Brown shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Assassin is trying to defend but Brown finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Brown thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Assassin trying to control from the bottom.
Assassin blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brown. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Brown is looking to stall here but Assassin recovers full guard. Assassin has control of Brown's left arm, preventing Brown from doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Brown is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Assassin's half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brown missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Brown tries to pass to full mount but Assassin defends it. Brown is working for a submission of some sort.
Assassin is doing well to control the position and prevent Brown from advancing to side control.

Brown is looking for a kimura but Assassin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brown to get the leverage. Brown wants to stand up but Assassin manages to regain full guard. Assassin pulls Brown in close to prevent any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brown wants to pass the guard but Assassin is keeping the position. We've been hearing good reports from Assassin's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Brown loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Assassin keeping moving, preventing Brown from controlling successfully. The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Eric Brown wasn't active enough on the ground. Assassin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Brown manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Assassin on his heels. He'll look to pass Assassin's guard now, I'm sure. Assassin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Eric Brown. Brown closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Assassin did well to prevent Brown getting side control.

Assassin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Brown. Brown loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Oh, that's bad for Assassin! Who's going to make the next move? Brown throws an elbow but Assassin slips to the side and avoids it well. That's two minutes gone in the round. Brown looking to sit in guard and control but Assassin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Assassin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Brown is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Assassin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Assassin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Assassin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Assassin has gone for a leg lock! Brown slips out almost immediately though and dives into Assassin's guard. Brown trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Brown wants to control from the top but Assassin keeps moving. Brown wants to get up but he can't break Assassin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Eric Brown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Assassin is pulling down on Brown's head to control his posture.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Brown instigates a clinch. Marco Assassin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Brown prevents a body shot from Assassin.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Eric Brown. Well Brown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
