PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mohammad Al Nasser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paavo Holkeri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mohammad Al Nasser is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mohammad Al Nasser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Paavo Holkeri!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holkeri lands a two punch combo.

Holkeri pushes Al Nasser up against the cage in a clinch.
Holkeri using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Holkeri creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Al Nasser's defenses.


It looks like Mohammad Al Nasser has been cut.

Holkeri's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Al Nasser is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Holkeri.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Holkeri closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Al Nasser did well to prevent Holkeri getting side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Holkeri tries to stand but can't do so whilst Al Nasser controls his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holkeri wants to lay and pray for a moment but Al Nasser keeps working.
Al Nasser wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Al Nasser is staying active underneath Holkeri, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Holkeri is looking to stall here but Al Nasser recovers full guard.
Holkeri trying to stand up but can't free himself from Al Nasser's guard.
Holkeri wants to control from the top but Al Nasser keeps moving.

Paavo Holkeri has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Holkeri gets caught napping as Al Nasser dives in and scores a takedown. Holkeri manages to retain guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Holkeri is looking for a sweep. Al Nasser is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Al Nasser prevents Holkeri from standing back up.

Al Nasser looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Holkeri is wriggling around trying to escape.

Al Nasser jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Holkeri manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Holkeri is looking to reverse the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holkeri is trying to work for a sweep but Al Nasser has mounted him!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Al Nasser avoids the attempt from Holkeri to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paavo Holkeri dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Holkeri gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Al Nasser counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Al Nasser pushes down on Holkeri's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Holkeri is trying to get back to full guard.

Holkeri looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Holkeri wants to get back to full guard.
Holkeri keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Holkeri is looking to control Al Nasser's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Holkeri avoid being mounted?

Paavo Holkeri has got the better of the ground game so far.

Al Nasser thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Al Nasser seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Holkeri does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Holkeri has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Al Nasser is working away from the top position though.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Paavo Holkeri.
Holkeri throws a nice looking combination but Al Nasser bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Mohammad Al Nasser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paavo Holkeri.

Holkeri tries to score a power double leg takedown but Al Nasser sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Holkeri somewhat.
Holkeri is breathing heavily.
Holkeri stuffs the takedown attempt from Al Nasser. Al Nasser gets slowly back to his feet.
Holkeri shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Al Nasser as he jumps to the side.

Holkeri closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Al Nasser's guard.
Holkeri stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Al Nasser swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Holkeri stays in close to Al Nasser's body and controls the position.

Al Nasser had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Holkeri defends it easily.

Al Nasser has his foot on Holkeri's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Holkeri works his way back into a safe position though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Holkeri throws a strike but Al Nasser rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mohammad Al Nasser will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Holkeri is trying to trip Al Nasser. He has hold of a leg but Al Nasser is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Holkeri persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Holkeri stands up and waves to Al Nasser to follow him.
Horrible takedown by Holkeri or perhaps it was just good defense by Al Nasser which made him look bad.

Al Nasser keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mohammad Al Nasser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paavo Holkeri.
Holkeri leaves Al Nasser with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Holkeri tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Al Nasser paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Holkeri goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Holkeri.

Al Nasser darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Holkeri takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Al Nasser thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Holkeri's head.
Holkeri wants to get back to full guard.
Al Nasser is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Al Nasser stalling away here and it's allowed Holkeri to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Holkeri is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Holkeri looking to hit a scissor sweep but Al Nasser is one step ahead there.

Al Nasser stays in close to Holkeri's body and controls the position.

Holkeri is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Al Nasser passes Holkeri's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Holkeri is controlling Al Nasser's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Al Nasser has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Holkeri sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

I would just about give that final round to Paavo Holkeri.
Well Holkeri has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
