Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ike Turner! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Handly! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Turner on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Turner bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Handly throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Turner scores with a nice head shot. Handly throws a body punch but Turner moves out of range. Handly closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Turner did well to prevent Handly getting side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Handly thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Handly is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Turner still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Turner has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! You can see the frustration on Handly's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Handly tries to bench press Turner off him but Turner keeps the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Handly tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Turner easily slips into full mount! Handly manages to regain half guard. Good work. Handly is looking to get back to full guard here but Turner has managed to pass to side control instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Handly is looking to regain half guard here but Turner keeps moving and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Turner wants to control but Handly is keeping him busy. Handly looking for a sweep but Turner has passed into full mount! Oh no!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Handly keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Handly wants to hold on but Turner pushes him away. Turner controlling the position easily from mount. Handly is desperately trying to improve his position but Turner has a good base and remains in mount. Handly keeps trying to improve his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Turner get's back to his feet. Turner misses with a double jab.
Turner shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Handly lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Turner is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Handly dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Turner has had enough and taps out.
