Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sten Sax! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick TheGreek! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sax dives in and grabs TheGreek's left leg, looking for a takedown. TheGreek pushes down on Sax's head and hops out. Sax moves into the clinch successfully.
Sax definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. TheGreek keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sax's efforts to push away. Sax blocking some punches.
Sax is trying to break the clinch but TheGreek has him pressed against the cage. Sax avoids the elbow strike from TheGreek, against the cage.
Sax scores with a nice hook to the head. TheGreek creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. With the two fighters working up against the cage, TheGreek just misses with a elbow thrown towards Sax's brow. Sax lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. TheGreek misses with an elbow strike.
Sax tries to break free but TheGreek pushes him back against the cage. TheGreek misses with a punch on the inside.
Sax tries to break the clinch but TheGreek is controlling the position. With the fighters up against the cage, TheGreek throws an elbow but misses. Sax tries to circle away but TheGreek has him pinned against the cage. Sax avoids the elbow strike from TheGreek, against the cage.
Sax scores with a nice hook to the head. TheGreek is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Sax is defending well for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. TheGreek keeps control of Sax as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Sax is trying to push TheGreek away but TheGreek has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Sax wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. TheGreek missing with knees to the body.
Sax manages to break the clinch.
TheGreek gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sax. Sloppy strikes from Sax. Those never looked like landing. TheGreek tries to clinch but Sax moves away and Sax counters with a lovely straight right hand! Sax darts in and out, connecting with a jab. This has been an exciting period of action! TheGreek gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! TheGreek tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Sax is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and TheGreek buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves TheGreek!! TheGreek is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Sax throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sten Sax! Sten Sax decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
