PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Kafka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kermit Earlandson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kafka comes into the arena with Welcome to the Jungle blaring out of the sound system. Earlandson has chosen the theme from titanic as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 1, fighting out of New York, Viktor Kafka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kermit Earlandson!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kafka stuffs the takedown attempt from Earlandson. Earlandson gets slowly back to his feet.
Earlandson shoots in but no luck this time.
Kafka connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Kafka avoids the head kick by Earlandson.
Kafka keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Viktor Kafka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kermit Earlandson.
Some bone on bone action there as Earlandson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

and Kafka counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kafka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Earlandson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Earlandson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kafka defends it easily.

Kafka keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Earlandson's head.
Kafka stays in close to Earlandson's body and controls the position.

Kafka slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Earlandson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Earlandson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kafka gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Earlandson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kafka escapes and throws Earlandson's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kafka just content to control the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Viktor Kafka.

Earlandson tries to clinch up but Kafka circles away and keeps his distance.

Earlandson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Earlandson seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Kafka has recovered full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kafka wants to sweep here but Earlandson controlling him for the moment.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Earlandson working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Kafka controls Earlandson momentarily but Earlandson frees himself.
Kafka lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Earlandson!
Earlandson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Earlandson wants to hold on but Kafka pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kafka's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Kafka counters with a single leg into guard. Earlandson didn't expect that.

Earlandson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kafka stacks Earlandson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kafka!

Earlandson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Kafka grinds an elbow into Earlandson's temple.
Earlandson tries to bench press Kafka off him but Kafka keeps the position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Kafka looks up at the clock and then as Earlandson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kafka smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Kafka remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kafka is nestled in close to Earlandson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kafka is taking a breather. Earlandson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Kafka perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Viktor Kafka just wasn't active enough.

Earlandson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kafka's waist but Kafka gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Earlandson off to one side.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Good leg kick by Kafka there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Earlandson drops his hands momentarily and Kafka takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kafka keeps Earlandson at a distance using the push kick.
Kermit Earlandson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Earlandson dives in for a single leg takedown but Kafka sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Viktor Kafka showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kafka has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
