PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Skyler Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Caine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes to the cage accompanied by One. The key to victory for Skyler Nelson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Skyler Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Benny Caine!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Caine changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nelson tries to avoid it but Caine manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nelson to the ground. Nelson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Caine shoots for a takedown but Nelson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Caine looks for a takedown but Nelson sprawls well.
Skyler Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benny Caine.

and Nelson moves into the clinch.

Nelson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Caine tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nelson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Caine somewhat.

Caine shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Caine was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nelson is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at UMMA Gym Now with StandUP that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Caine is looking to take a break and control but Nelson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nelson is trying to improve his position.
Caine wants to control but Nelson is keeping him busy.
Nelson throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Caine has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Nelson!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nelson is trying to escape the mount.
Caine looking to control but Nelson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Caine can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Nelson is looking to escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Benny Caine.
Caine tries for a takedown but Nelson circles away easily

so Nelson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Nelson works over Caine with some ground and pound from guard.
Nelson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Caine is proving hard to escape from.

Caine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Nelson wanted to stand there but Caine had control of the position.
Nelson lands a couple of digs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson wants to stand and escape but instead Caine has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Nelson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nelson keeping moving, preventing Caine from controlling successfully.
Nelson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Caine is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nelson wants to sweep here but Caine controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Benny Caine will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Caine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nelson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nelson swats away the attempt to clinch by Caine.
Caine shoots in but Nelson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Caine is defended easily by Nelson.

and Nelson counters with a single leg into guard. Caine didn't expect that.

Caine looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nelson wants to stand but Caine is controlling his posture from full guard.
Caine wants to sweep here but Nelson controlling him for the moment.
Nelson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Caine is proving hard to escape from.
Nelson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Caine is on top in guard.

Nelson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Nelson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Caine slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nelson prevents Caine from improving position.
Nelson regains half guard.
Nelson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Caine is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Nelson is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Benny Caine!
