Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Burden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chad Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burden shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ortiz napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Burden lands a nice forearm strike.
Ortiz wants to control but Burden postures up.
Burden is putting a hurting on Ortiz here, landing some big shots from side control.
Ortiz on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Ortiz pushes Burden away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Burden gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Ortiz is trying to control Burden's posture but Burden avoids it.
Ortiz stops Burden from passing to mount.
Burden has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Ortiz is looking to reverse the position.
Ortiz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ortiz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ortiz.

Ortiz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burden's guard.
Burden has Ortiz pulled in close to control his posture.

Ortiz wants to get up but he can't break Burden's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Burden has his hands on Ortiz's head, controlling the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Shane Burden wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Burden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ortiz was covering up waiting for the punch and Burden finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Burden's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ortiz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Burden is one step ahead there.
Burden is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ortiz throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Burden controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Shane Burden wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Burden blocks a jab.
Burden changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ortiz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Burden tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ortiz's legs.
Ortiz throws Burden to one side and escapes!
Burden is breathing heavily.
Burden shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Burden avoids the body shot from Ortiz.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Ortiz.
Ortiz closes the distance and clinches up with Burden, looking for a takedown. Ortiz pushes Burden against the cage but Burden circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Burden looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ortiz is trying to control but can't.

Burden is looking to advance position but Ortiz won't allow it.
Ortiz gets back to full guard.
Burden postures up.
Burden knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ortiz on the ground.
Ortiz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ortiz is looking to take a break and control but Burden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Burden is looking for a sweep. Ortiz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shane Burden dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
A combination from Ortiz does no damage.
Burden throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Burden has closed the distance and engaged Ortiz in a clinch.
Burden has picked Ortiz up - he's going for a ride! Burden dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Ortiz wants to get back to full guard.
Shane Burden overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Burden is trying to work for a kimura but Ortiz is defending well.
Ortiz is trying to stand up here but Burden is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ortiz kicks off Burden and gets to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burden scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Burden perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Burden stops Ortiz from getting back to his feet.
Burden is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ortiz is trying to stand.
Ortiz wants to control but Burden is keeping busy.
Ortiz pushes Burden off but Burden dives into side control.

Ortiz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Burden's best efforts.
Burden is working for a kimura but Ortiz is defending it quite comfortably.

Still in half guard, Burden seems content to control.

Ortiz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Burden was well out of range. Poor timing from Ortiz.
Burden dives in and grabs Ortiz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ortiz pushes down on Burden's head and hops out.
Ortiz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Burden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ortiz manages to avoid it.
Ortiz throws a sloppy head kick and Burden moves out of range easily.
Ortiz throws a right and a left that both miss.

so Burden counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Burden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ortiz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ortiz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Burden defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Burden has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Ortiz to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Burden is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Ortiz pulls down on the head and he's put Burden to sleep! This one is all over!
