Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Meyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Meyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sid James!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meyer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Meyer seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
James throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Meyer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
James thows a body shot but no joy.
James is looking to clinch but Meyer is avoiding it.
James throws the left hand but Meyer avoids the punch easily.

Meyer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging James to the ground. Meyer is now in James's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
James trying to control the position.
Meyer connects with a couple of short punches.
Meyer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Meyer preventing the sweep.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.
Meyer throws a big elbow that misses.
James is trying to keep Meyer in close.
James managing to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meyer wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James controls Meyer momentarily but Meyer frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sid James.
Meyer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has James pinned against the cage. James gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Meyer avoids the body shot from James.
James displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Meyer.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Meyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Meyer darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meyer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Meyer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Meyer scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

James regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Meyer.
Meyer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
James trying to keep a closed guard but Meyer is proving a slippery customer.
James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
James avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Meyer trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sid James wasn't active enough on the ground.
Meyer closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.
A swing and a miss from Meyer.
James throws a body punch but Meyer moves out of range.
James loads up on a big right hand but Meyer slips the punch.

Meyer scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James dodges the ground and pound from Meyer.

Meyer is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well.
Meyer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear James down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James tries to bench press Meyer off him but Meyer keeps the position.
James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meyer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
James wants to get back to his feet but Meyer drags him back down.
James is looking for a sweep.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Meyer working the ground and pound but James is defending the strikes.
Meyer wants to lay and pray for a moment but James keeps working.

Meyer is working to tighten his grip on James's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. James has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Meyer is really squeezing tight and eventually James passes out! Meyer breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Paul Meyer!
An out of breath Paul Meyer thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Sid James was interviewed post fight and said 'It happens'.
