Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rivero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Leroy!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leroy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Leroy tries for a takedown but Rivero sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rivero circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rivero keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Leroy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
John Rivero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Leroy.

Rivero shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Leroy lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Leroy trying to keep a closed guard but Rivero is proving a slippery customer.
Rivero advances to half guard.
Leroy is doing well to control the position and prevent Rivero from advancing to side control.
Leroy tries to kick Rivero off but Rivero keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rivero tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Rivero is looking to advance position but Leroy won't allow it.
Rivero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Leroy keeps working.
Leroy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rivero thows a huge punch but Leroy dodges it nicely.
Rivero throwing shots but Leroy is blocking nicely.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Rivero thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Leroy's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Leroy connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Leroy fails with the takedown
and Rivero counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Leroy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rivero counters with a one-two to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

so Rivero counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Leroy looks gassed!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Leroy can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rivero pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leroy is keeping the position for now.
Rivero throws a big right hand that misses.

Rivero works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leroy is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Rivero postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Leroy looks a forlorn figure.
A nice elbow there by Rivero.
Rivero trying to control but Leroy is having none of it.
Leroy tries to lock up and control but Rivero gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rivero in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Rivero unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Leroy wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Rivero celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Rivero!
