Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Myers Hockles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Myers Hockles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Smith!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.

Hockles gets a clinch.

Hockles breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hockles seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hockles napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hockles is trying to improve his position.
Hockles is trying to get back to his feet.

Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hockles has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hockles is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
Smith trying to control the position but Hockles is working away.
Hockles wants to control but Smith postures up.
Smith fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Smith tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Hockles knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Hockles dodges the ground and pound from Smith.
Hockles is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Hockles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smith cracks Hockles with a big right hand but Hockles just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Hockles manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Smith tries to get to full guard but Hockles has control of the leg.

Smith avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hockles.

Hockles is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Smith hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Smith moves out of range of the body kick.
Smith avoids the body shot from Hockles.
Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hockles tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hockles to the ground. Hockles escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hockles thuds a left hand into Smith's body.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hockles closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smith lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Hockles backwards.

Hockles's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Smith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hockles circles away.
Myers Hockles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Smith.
Hockles throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Jake Smith has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hockles trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
Hockles misses with a head shot. Smith uses the momentum to regain guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hockles throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hockles throws the left hand but Smith avoids the punch easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
Hockles goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Smith looks to land a left hand but Hockles moved out of range nicely.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Smith throws a right and a left that both miss.

and Smith counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Hockles closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smith did well to prevent Hockles getting side control.

Hockles takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hockles swivels and escapes.

Smith looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hockles tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hockles's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

I would just about give that final round to Jake Smith.
Well Hockles has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
