PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and CJ Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis comes to the cage accompanied by Shut'Em Down. Richards has chosen Three Six Mafia - It's a fight as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, CJ Richards!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Richards fails with the takedown.

Richards shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Richards was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Lewis wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Lewis managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Richards.
Lewis pushes Richards away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Richards gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
A lull in the action here as Richards stalls from top position.
Lewis is trying to get back to his feet.

Richards tries to advance to mount but Lewis instead regains half guard.
Richards stops Lewis from getting back to his feet.
Richards is keen to just control but Lewis is a slippery customer.
Richards lands strikes from half guard.
Richards controlling the action here.
Richards throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Richards with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Richards prevents Lewis from standing back up.
Richards trying to control the action but Lewis is working from the bottom.
Richards stops Lewis from getting back to his feet.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Richards connects with a nice short shot to Lewis's temple.
Richards content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lewis looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We've been hearing good reports from Lewis's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Richards is trying to control the action in half guard but Lewis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Richards trying to mount his opponent but Lewis defends it.
Richards content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Lewis is trying to stand.

The ref stands the fighters back up. CJ Richards was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Lewis takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Richards shoots for a takedown but Lewis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mike Lewis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of CJ Richards.
Richards throws a sloppy head kick and Lewis moves out of range easily.
Lewis cracks a nice hook into Richards's ribs.
Richards shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lewis as he jumps to the side.
Lewis throws a looping overhand right but Richards ducks down to avoid it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lewis throws a body kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

CJ Richards dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Richards throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lewis's waist but Lewis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Richards off to one side.
Richards moves out of range of the body kick from Lewis.
Richards closes the distance and clinches up with Lewis, looking for a takedown. Richards pushes Lewis against the cage but Lewis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Richards tries a head kick but it misses.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Richards fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Richards has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Mike Lewis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of CJ Richards.
A chopping leg kick lands by Lewis.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Richards is defended easily by Lewis.
Lewis goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Lewis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Danga de danga de dang - Richards scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Mike Lewis has been cut.
Richards steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lewis.
Richards looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Richards connects with a good right hand that stumbles Lewis. Lewis circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Richards throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lewis's waist but Lewis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Richards off to one side.
Richards shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Lewis counter with a right hand.
Richards is breathing heavily.
Horrible takedown by Richards or perhaps it was just good defense by Lewis which made him look bad.
Richards shoots in for a double leg but Lewis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Richards fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Lewis lands with a straight right. Richards didn't see that one coming.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lewis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Lewis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Richards.
Mike Lewis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Richards has his takedown stuffed

and Lewis counters with a head kick that drops Richards to the mat! Richards scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!


Richards is rocked!
Richards bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Lewis lands a big head kick that sends Richards tumbling to the mat! Lewis takes a step backwards and waves Richards back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Richards is still on wobbly legs! Can Lewis finish him?
A punch combination from Lewis misses.
Lewis Throws a clean left jab. Lewis Twirls his body and connects with a Spinning Back Fist that connects flush with Richards's chin! Richards crumbles to the ground and Lewis follows up with some unanswered strikes. It's all over!! Nice standup skills displayed by Lewis!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mike Lewis!
A relieved looking Mike Lewis thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
