PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marcellas Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Geist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wallace comes into the arena with Pepper- Stormtrooper blaring out of the sound system. Marcellas Wallace has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcellas Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Viktor Geist!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Geist stuffs the takedown.
Geist tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Geist swinging wildly here.
Wallace shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Geist but Geist pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A head kick misses from Geist.
Geist throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Wallace takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Geist throws a body punch but Wallace moves out of range.
Wallace takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Geist scores with a push kick.
Geist goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wallace looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcellas Wallace. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wallace ducks under a wild hook from Geist.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Geist.
Geist feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Wallace's calf.
Geist throws a nice head kick!
A jab from Geist misses.
Geist pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Geist throws a head kick but Wallace moves out of range.
Geist throws a head kick but Wallace moves out of range.
Geist scores with a leg kick.
Wallace sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wallace goes for a double leg but Geist avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Geist continues to drive forward.
Geist swings wildly with an uppercut but Wallace uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wallace has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Wallace has a couple of punches blocked by Geist.
Wallace goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A shot in the inside from Wallace.
Wallace lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Geist backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wallace turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Wallace manages to end up in side control.
Geist parries the strikes from Wallace easily there. Wallace is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Geist to escape.

Wallace working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Geist takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Geist can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wallace lands a few punches from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Geist is looking to reverse the position.
Geist is still trying to improve position.
Wallace working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Geist takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Wallace has knee on belly momentarily but Geist bucks him off and regains half guard.
Wallace trying to advance position but Geist counters by regaining guard.

Geist working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wallace doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wallace manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wallace stops Geist from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Geist keeping moving, preventing Wallace from controlling successfully.
Wallace has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wallace with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Wallace working some strikes from top position.
Wallace throwing strikes but missing.
Wallace is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wallace works over Geist with some ground and pound from guard.
Wallace postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wallace postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.


Geist is rocked!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Geist has momentary wrist control but Wallace slips an elbow through the middle.
Geist is still in real trouble! Can Wallace finish him?
Wallace content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Wallace thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Wallace keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Geist's head.
Geist told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Wallace gets to his feet and stands over Geist, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Geist felt that one! Wallace unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Geist from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marcellas Wallace!
Marcellas Wallace seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
