PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Nuttel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pocoyo Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nuttel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Black is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Black is pushing Nuttel's head away, looking to escape. Nuttel manages to hold on to the position though.
Black tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nuttel wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Black can't do much from the bottom here.
Nuttel in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Black prevents Nuttel from improving position.
Black is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nuttel advances nicely into full mount.
Black is in all sorts of trouble here.

Nuttel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nuttel lands a big elbow.

Nuttel has control of Black's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Black regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Black is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Black is trying to escape the mount.
Black is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Black tries to buck Nuttel off but he can't manage it.

Black really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nuttel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nuttel cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Black tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Nuttel content just to control the position here.
Black's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nuttel looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Black has a takedown stuffed.
Black tries to close the distance and clinch but Nuttel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nuttel could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Black throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nuttel's waist but Nuttel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Black off to one side.
Fred Nuttel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nuttel is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Horrible takedown by Nuttel or perhaps it was just good defense by Black which made him look bad.
Nice takedown defense from Nuttel. No joy for Black on that attempt.
Fred Nuttel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pocoyo Black.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nuttel wants to clinch up but Black keeps it at a distance.

Nuttel seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Black is breathing heavily.
Nuttel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Nuttel scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Nuttel is controlling the pace.
Nuttel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Nuttel stands up and beckons Black to join him on the feet.

Nuttel has hold of one of Black's legs. Black is fighting the takedown attempt but Nuttel gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Nuttel stands and steps away. Black gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nuttel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Nuttel feints and as Black raises his hands in defense, Nuttel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Black looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nuttel is one step ahead there.

Black wants to sweep but no luck.

Black is looking to stand up but Nuttel isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Black moves out of range as Nuttel throws a body kick.
Black changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nuttel tries to avoid it but Black manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nuttel to the ground. Nuttel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Black shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nuttel pinned against the cage. Nuttel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
No luck for Nuttel with that takedown attempt.
Nuttel shoots in and drives through. Black sprawls well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nuttel sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Black closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nuttel circles away.

Nuttel feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fred Nuttel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Nuttel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Nuttel swats away the attempt to clinch by Black.

It looks like Fred Nuttel has been cut.

Black has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Nuttel - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Black, and another! Nuttel is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
