PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Carlton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez comes into the arena with Lupang Hinirang-Philippines National Anthem blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez forces Carlton back against the cage and clinches.

Carlton has clasped his hands together around Velasquez's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Velasquez wants to control but Carlton postures up.
Velasquez prevents Carlton from moving into mount.

The strikes coming from Carlton are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Velasquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Velasquez is pushing Carlton's head away, looking to escape. Carlton manages to hold on to the position though.
Carlton wants to control but Velasquez is keeping him busy.

Carlton misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasquez wants to control but Carlton postures up.

Velasquez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Carlton's best efforts.

Velasquez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Carlton throws a strike but Velasquez avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carlton wants to stand and escape but Velasquez is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bill Carlton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Carlton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
