PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Toshiro Montero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kale Kummola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Montero comes to the cage accompanied by Danzig - Mother . Kummola is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Master of Sorrow. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Toshiro Montero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kale Kummola!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montero throws a hook but Kummola avoids it easily.
Montero buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Kummola attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Kummola throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Montero shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Montero tests Kummola's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Montero tries to land a front kick but Kummola steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Montero changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Kummola wants to clinch up but Montero keeps it at a distance.
Kummola checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Montero shoots for a takedown but Kummola saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice uppercut lands for Kummola. That snapped Montero's head back.
Montero throws a lazy right hand but Kummola sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Montero gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kummola looking to sit in guard and control but Montero gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Montero missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Montero is in close to Kummola's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Montero won't allow Kummola to sweep him here.
Montero lands a couple of digs.
Montero trying to control but Kummola is working from the bottom.

Kummola is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Montero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Montero is stalling in the full guard.
Montero wants to control from the top but Kummola keeps moving.
Montero throwing strikes but missing.
Kummola manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Montero manages to get himself to full guard.
Montero keeping moving, preventing Kummola from controlling successfully.

Kummola pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Montero is keeping the position for now.
Montero seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Montero has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Montero manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Kummola tries to hold on but Montero pushes him away.

Montero lands a big shot there that rocks Kummola but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kummola is working to get back to half guard.
Montero can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kummola is looking to escape.
Kummola manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Kummola is trying to get back to full guard.
Montero will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kummola wants to control but Montero is keeping busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Montero seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Montero is keen to just control but Kummola is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Toshiro Montero will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Montero will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Montero tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kummola swivels and escapes.
Kummola throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Montero throws a nice inside leg kick.
Montero scores with a hook to the body. Kummola takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Montero throws out a loose jab but Kummola uses good head movement to avoid it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Montero. That's going to slow Kummola down.
Kummola lands a nice shot to the body.
Kummola misses with a body shot.
Montero throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kummola sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kummola uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Montero.
Kummola tries to clinch but Montero moves out of range.

and Montero counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kummola's guard now.
Montero wants to control from the top but Kummola keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kummola is on top in guard.
Montero manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kummola can't escape the position.
Montero lands a couple of good shots and Kummola has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Montero is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Kummola up.
Kummola is keeping busy.

Kummola is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Montero scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

Montero has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Montero working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Montero is not going to allow Kummola to sit and survive in this position.
Montero has Kummola flattened out and is raining down punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kummola is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Montero trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Toshiro Montero overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Montero doesn't have the hooks in and Kummola manages to turn into his guard.
Montero keeping moving, preventing Kummola from controlling successfully.
Kummola might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Montero haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kummola trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Kummola sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Montero doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Kummola paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Montero - great work!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Toshiro Montero!
In his post fight interview, Toshiro Montero started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
