PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mariusz Pudzianowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Striker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pudzianowski has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Striker lands a jab-cross combination.


It looks like Mariusz Pudzianowski has been cut.
Pudzianowski is breathing heavily.
No luck for Striker with that takedown attempt.
Striker shoots in for a takedown but Pudzianowski shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Striker avoids the body shot from Pudzianowski.
Striker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pudzianowski swats him away and circles back towards the center.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Striker.
Mariusz Pudzianowski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Striker.
Striker throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Pudzianowski.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Striker is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Pudzianowski presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Striker ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Striker no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Striker controls Pudzianowski momentarily but Pudzianowski frees himself.
Striker lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pudzianowski!
Striker controlling the pace for now.
Pudzianowski is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Renegade Fighting Systems, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Striker is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pudzianowski can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Striker throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Pudzianowski avoids a series of strikes thrown by Striker.

Striker moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Pudzianowski has worked his arm free - good work by Pudzianowski!

Striker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pudzianowski is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Pudzianowski manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Pudzianowski keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Striker is taking a breather. Pudzianowski says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Striker trying to control the action but Pudzianowski is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Striker is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Striker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Poor strikes thrown by Striker there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Striker throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Striker instigates a clinch.
Striker lands a nice shot to the body.
Striker lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Striker gets control of Pudzianowski's arms and successfully pulls guard. Striker will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Striker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Pudzianowski throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Striker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Striker seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pudzianowski is fighting to break Striker's control of his arms but Striker is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Striker has eaten all the pies!

Ben Striker seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Striker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pudzianowski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Striker somewhat.

Striker looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pudzianowski is fending him off so far but Striker persists. Nope, Pudzianowski circles away and we're back to standing.

Come on Striker - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Pudzianowski throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Striker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pudzianowski pinned against the cage. Pudzianowski gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ben Striker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Striker tries for a takedown. No joy.
Striker lands an elbow just above Pudzianowski 's eye.
Striker is trying to pull guard but Pudzianowski turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Striker breaks from the clinch.
Striker lets loose with a powerful body kick. Pudzianowski will feel that in the morning.
Striker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pudzianowski as he jumps to the side.

Striker closes the distance and pushes Pudzianowski back into the cage.

Striker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Striker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pudzianowski.

Striker looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pudzianowski tries to close the distance and clinch but Striker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Striker bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Striker is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Striker wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pudzianowski has him pressed against the cage.
Striker tries to score a body lock takedown but Pudzianowski shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Pudzianowski stuffs the takedown attempt from Striker. Striker gets slowly back to his feet.
Pudzianowski digs a good hook to Striker's body.
Striker tries to clinch but Pudzianowski moves out of range.

Striker closes the distance and clinches.

Striker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pudzianowski displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Striker.

Pudzianowski clinches up with Striker and pushes him back against the cage.
Mariusz Pudzianowski has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ben Striker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ben Striker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Striker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
