Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shaquille Oneal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Searlas! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Searlas ducks under a wild hook from Oneal. The fighters circling - Oneal throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Oneal shoots in for a takedown but Searlas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Searlas keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Searlas closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Oneal quickly recovers to half guard. Nice strikes from Searlas there. Oneal looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Searlas winds up and cracks Oneal with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Searlas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Oneal does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Searlas drops an elbow to the side of Oneal's head. This has been an exciting period of action! Oneal is not content to let Searlas control the position. Oneal wants to get back to his feet. Oneal trying to control from the bottom.
Searlas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Searlas wants to pass the guard but Oneal is defending well. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Searlas working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. Oneal wants to improve his position but Searlas is controlling well.
Searlas throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Searlas lands a nice short elbow. Searlas missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Searlas thows a huge punch but Oneal dodges it nicely.
Oneal is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Vicious Striking, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Searlas performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Oneal wants to improve his position but Searlas is controlling well.
Oneal moves into full guard.
Searlas is looking to work some ground and pound but Oneal has wrist control. Searlas slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Oneal is looking for a triangle here but Searlas uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oneal manages to work his way to half guard, despite Searlas's best efforts. Oneal actively working from the bottom here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Searlas is just content to waste time from the top position. Oneal takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Oneal wants to control but Searlas passes easily into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Oneal taking some punishment here, with Searlas in his half guard. Oneal has hold of Searlas's hands but Searlas slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Searlas is looking to take a break and control but Oneal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Oneal is in trouble now - Searlas has advanced to mount! Searlas lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
