Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stefan Gerner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Gerner. No joy for Wells on that attempt. Gerner is looking to clinch. Wells forces Gerner back against the cage and clinches. Gerner tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Wells shoots in and drives through. Gerner sprawls well. Stefan Gerner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wells displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Wells is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Wells throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Wells tries to clinch there but Gerner circles away.
Wells feints a jab promting Gerner to slip. Wells then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gerner slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. The fight stays on the outside here - Gerner looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Gerner tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wells paws at him with a jab and circles away. Gerner shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wells pinned against the cage. Wells gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Gerner takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Gerner is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Wells stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Gerner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wells swats him away and circles back towards the center. Gerner moves into the clinch successfully.
Wells wants to take the fight to the mat but Gerner manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Wells drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gerner pulls his leg out and moves away.

Gerner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Gerner stands up and we're back to a striking position. Wells scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Wells tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Wells dives in and grabs Gerner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gerner pushes down on Wells's head and hops out. Wells tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gerner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Gerner wants to clinch and Wells counters with a nice leg kick.

Gerner fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Wells closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gerner circles away. Gerner gets off balance looking for a body kick and Wells counters with a slapping leg kick. Wells lands a nice leg kick that just misses Gerner's sensitive parts. A head kick from Gerner lands but Wells takes it in his stride. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nice takedown defense from Wells. No joy for Gerner on that attempt. Horrible takedown by Wells or perhaps it was just good defense by Gerner which made him look bad. Stefan Gerner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Connor Wells. Wells shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gerner sprawls well. Gerner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wells gets slowly back to his feet. Wells moves out of range of the body kick.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wells drags the fight down to the ground.
Connor Wells is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Wells manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Stefan Gerner. I think Wells has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
