Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Era Ojdanic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anthony Pettis ! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pettis gets caught napping as Ojdanic dives in and scores a takedown. Pettis manages to retain guard. Ojdanic is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pettis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pettis working for a triangle but Ojdanic defends it easily.
Pettis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ojdanic controls the pace. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ojdanic passes easily into side control. Nice work. Pettis is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Ojdanic is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Pettis is trying desperately to improve position. Pettis sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ojdanic with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Pettis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ojdanic's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ojdanic's back! Ojdanic definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Pettis is looking for the choke from the back position but Ojdanic is controlling his hands well. Ojdanic tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Pettis goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Ojdanic is on top in guard.
Pettis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ojdanic is aware though and is defending well. Pettis looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ojdanic passes into half guard.
Ojdanic escapes and gets back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ojdanic fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pettis sprawls well initially but Ojdanic persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Ojdanic is trying for a kimura here. Pettis looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Ojdanic wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Era Ojdanic! Era Ojdanic opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
