The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gate closes the distance and clinches.

Gate breaks the clinch.
Chiba seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Chiba tries to clinch but Gate moves away

and Gate moves into the clinch.
Chiba tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gate just stands there and leans against the cage.

We've been informed that Gate has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Chiba is trying to break the clinch but Gate is controlling him.
Chiba is trying to push Gate away but Gate has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Gate escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Chiba is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Gate to keep the fight standing.

Gate manages to break the clinch.
Gate slaps away a takedown attempt from Chiba, before circling back to the center of the mat.
