Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mitsuhiro Ishida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raymond Whittaker!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whittaker looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
That kick from Whittaker tenderised Ishida's leg. Ishida is trying to keep his angry face on.
Ishida shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Whittaker pinned against the cage. Whittaker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Whittaker thows a body shot but no joy.
Ishida shoots in for a double leg but Whittaker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Ishida thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Whittaker is looking for a sweep. Ishida is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Whittaker can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Whittaker sizes up Ishida with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Whittaker scores with a hook.
Ishida throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Whittaker lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Ishida fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitsuhiro Ishida. That's going to take a lot out of him.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Mitsuhiro Ishida will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Whittaker stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Whittaker wants it to stay on the feet.
Whittaker throws a wild body kick that Ishida sees coming a mile off.
Whittaker misses with a looping right.
Whittaker connects with an inside leg kick.
Whittaker misses with a hook.
Whittaker throws a head kick but Ishida moves out of range.
Mitsuhiro Ishida is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ishida pushes Whittaker up against the cage in a clinch.

Ishida jumps guard and drags Whittaker to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Ishida wants to sweep but no luck.

Ishida working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Whittaker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Whittaker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ishida is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Whittaker defends well.

Ishida had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Whittaker defends it easily.

Ishida has his foot on Whittaker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Whittaker works his way back into a safe position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ishida seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mitsuhiro Ishida.
Whittaker moves into range and connects with a jab.
Whittaker scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ishida doesn't seem bothered though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ishida shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Whittaker eats them both and turns towards Ishida to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ishida throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Whittaker lands a glancing blow to the side of Ishida's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mitsuhiro Ishida will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've been hearing good reports from Ishida's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ishida, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
