Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Abraham Lincoln! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yurg Vedden! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vedden tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Lincoln lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Vedden throws a head kick that misses. Vedden throws a lazy head kick and Lincoln counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lincoln. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Vedden is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lincoln accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Lincoln distracts Vedden with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Vedden is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vedden is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Lincoln looking to pass the guard. Lincoln with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vedden wants to sweep here but Lincoln controlling him for the moment. Lincoln throwing strikes but missing. Vedden looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lincoln is one step ahead there. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lincoln's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Vedden has momentary wrist control but Lincoln slips an elbow through the middle. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Lincoln trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Vedden working a defensive guard here.
Vedden looking for a sweep. Not yet Vedden, not yet. Lincoln is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Lincoln postures up in Vedden's guard and throws a big left but Vedden blocks it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lincoln scoring with some ground and pound. Lincoln lands a couple of elbows. Lincoln lands a couple of digs. Lincoln scoring with some ground and pound.
Vedden is rocked! Lincoln postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Vedden covers up, he's hurt! Lincoln keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Lincoln and the ref steps in to end the fight! Lincoln can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
