Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dexter Dalit! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jeff Caldwell! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A slow jab from Dalit misses its intended target. Dalit clinches up against the cage. Dalit lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Caldwell wants to break free but Dalit has control.
Good body shot from Dalit.
Dalit prevents Caldwell from breaking the clinch. The referee calls for Dalit to work.
Caldwell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dalit smiles and moves away.
Caldwell ducks under a wild hook from Dalit. Dalit moves into the clinch successfully.
Dalit softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Dalit's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The fighters circling - Dalit throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Caldwell blocks a jab. Dalit pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dalit drives through and clinches with Caldwell against the cage.
Dalit lands with a short shot to the head. Caldwell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dalit has him pressed against the cage. Dalit taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Dalit lands with a left to the head. Dalit will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Caldwell up against the cage. Caldwell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dalit walks away with a smile on his face. Caldwell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Dalit circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Caldwell to the canvas! Caldwell doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Dalit keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dexter Dalit! Dexter Dalit retains his lightweight title! Dexter Dalit decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
