Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, David Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yukii Ogata! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ogata is trying to defend but Johnson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Ogata has one foot on Johnson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Johnson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Ogata holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ogata is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Johnson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Johnson's back! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ogata avoiding Johnson 's attempts to control his hands. A bit of a pause in the action here. Ogata controlling the positon. Ogata's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Yukii Ogata wasn't active enough on the ground. Ogata throws a jab when Johnson was well out of range. Ogata gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Johnson being controlled here momentarily. Johnson looking to pass the guard. Ogata is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Johnson wants to pass the guard but Ogata is keeping the position. Ogata is edging up against the cage. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Ogata has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Johnson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Johnson has picked Ogata up - he's going for a ride! Johnson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Ogata has his hands clasped together around Johnson's back. He's all about the action. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Johnson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Yukii Ogata has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Ogata looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Johnson thows a huge punch but Ogata dodges it nicely.
Ogata pushes Johnson off and gets back to his feet. Johnson scores with a takedown into Ogata's guard. Johnson is breathing heavily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ogata manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Johnson wants the takedown. Ogata is fighting it off but Johnson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ogata's guard against the cage. Johnson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ogata managing to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ogata has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Johnson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Johnson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson showed some decent athleticism there. Ogata keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Ogata is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Johnson scores with a couple of nice shots. Ogata trying to control here.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ogata holds on and takes a little breather. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that David Johnson will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Johnson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ogata tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Johnson is in Ogata's guard. Ogata controlling Johnson's posture. Ogata has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Johnson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Johnson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ogata was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard. Ogata is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Ogata is retaining full guard. Ogata is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Johnson presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Johnson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ogata regains guard immediately. Ogata has control of Johnson's left arm, preventing Johnson from doing any damage. Ogata wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. David Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Johnson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Ogata is controlling Johnson's posture.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Yukii Ogata. Ogata moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off. Ogata looks to clinch and Johnson counters with a one-two to the body. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The ref stands the fighters back up. Yukii Ogata was stalling too much, according to the referee. Johnson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ogata. Ogata rushes Johnson and presses him up against the cage. Ogata stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Ogata clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Johnson missing with strikes. Ogata looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Johnson throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Ogata trying to control the hands but Johnson won't let him. Ogata has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Ogata turns into Johnson and is now in his guard.

Johnson wants to free his trapped foot but Ogata is holding on for dear life with his legs. Ogata is looking to control Johnson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ogata avoid being mounted? It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Johnson manages to end up in side control. Ogata gets back to half guard. Ogata is controlling Johnson's trapped leg to prevent Johnson from advancing to side control.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to David Johnson. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
