PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Black Belt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cain has chosen A Warrior's Call as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Black Belt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Cain!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cain misses with a double jab

and Belt counters with a shoot takedown. Cain fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Belt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cain wants to sweep here but Belt controlling him for the moment.
Belt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cain preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Belt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Belt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Belt throws a big right hand that misses.
Cain looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Belt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Belt won't allow Cain to sweep him here.
Belt has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Belt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Cain wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belt is fighting to break Cain's control of his arms but Cain is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Cain looking to hit a scissor sweep but Belt is one step ahead there.
Belt throws a big right hand that misses.

Belt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cain manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Belt has Cain in his guard.
Belt keeping moving, preventing Cain from controlling successfully.
Belt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cain thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Belt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cain looking to pass the guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Belt is on top in guard.
Belt lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Belt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cain's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Belt drops back looking for a leg! Cain is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cain manages to kick Belt off! Belt jumps back into Cain's guard.
Belt postures up in Cain's guard and throws a big left but Cain blocks it.
Belt connects with a couple of short punches.
Cain bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Belt's guard.

Cain is pushing down on Belt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Belt is fighting to maintain full guard but Cain has managed to sneak the leg through.

Cain is looking for a kimura but Belt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cain to get the leverage.
Cain stops Belt from getting back to his feet.
Belt is positioning himself well to prevent Cain advancing to mount.
Belt is trying to maintain the position but Cain is very close to passing his half guard.
Cain trying to control the action but Belt is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cain is thwarting Belt's attempts to control the position.
Belt moves into full guard.

Belt looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Belt holds on and takes a little breather.
Cain pushes down on Belt's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Belt is refusing to be controlled, as Cain sits in half guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cain tries to pass the half guard into mount. Belt knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Cain seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Black Belt dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cain misses with a right hand

and Belt counters with a shoot takedown. Cain fights it but they end up in guard.
Cain has momentary wrist control but Belt slips an elbow through the middle.
Cain looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cain is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cain might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Belt haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Belt missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Belt throws an elbow that misses. Cain uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Belt's guard. Nice move by Cain!

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Belt wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Black Belt.
Cain takes a swing at Belt's ribcage but misses.
A right-left combo lands from Cain.
Cain catches Belt with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Belt gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cain throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Black Belt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cain misses with the body kick

and Belt counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cain won't be happy with that.
Belt lands some shots froms side control.
Cain is trying to improve his position.

Belt swings around for an armbar but Cain sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Belt's guard.
Belt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cain is one step ahead there.
Cain wants to control from the top but Belt keeps moving.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Cain is looking to improve his position but Belt isn't that keen on the idea.
Cain takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Belt has control of Cain's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cain regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Belt winds up and cracks Cain with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Belt is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Belt scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Belt landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Cain is rocked!

Belt is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cain sees it coming and defends easily.
Cain trying to hold on to Belt's head to control him but Belt postures up.

Belt is looking for a kimura but Cain is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Belt to get the leverage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Belt wants to work for an arm triangle but Cain is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Belt is thwarting Cain's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Cain misses with a combination

and Belt counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Cain has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Belt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Black Belt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Belt postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Cain is still in real trouble! Can Belt finish him?

Belt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Cain seems to have recovered his senses.
Belt throwing strikes but missing.
Belt is working Cain over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Belt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cain doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cain manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cain tries to free his leg and advance position but Belt is retaining full guard.

Cain stands and throws Belt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cain tries to advance position but instead Belt slips a leg back in to half guard.
Cain is stalling here. Belt is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cain seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Belt has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Belt is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cain knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Cain is looking for a sweep.

Belt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Belt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Belt tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Cain tries to improve position but can't.
Mike Cain has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Belt cracks Cain with a big elbow.
Cain manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Cain trying to control from the bottom.
Belt working Cain over with strikes.
Belt is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cain is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Belt scores with a couple of nice shots.

Belt is working for a kimura but Cain is defending it quite comfortably.

Belt is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cain is just riding it out for now. Belt eventually gives up the hold.
Cain is trying to get back to full guard.
Black Belt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Belt looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cain on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cain wants to get back to full guard.
Belt winds up and cracks Cain with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Belt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
