Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Tony Jaa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Timmeh Larson! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jaa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Larson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jaa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Larson circles away quickly and effectively. Jaa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Larson defends well and Jaa ends up having to push Larson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. A short right hand to the side of the head by Jaa. Jaa is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Larson trying to stall but Jaa improves his position.
Jaa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Larson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jaa throws out the jab. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jaa. Larson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jaa swats him away and circles back towards the center. Larson throws a sloppy head kick and Jaa moves out of range easily. The fight stays on the outside here - Jaa looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Larson clinches up with Jaa and pushes him back against the cage. Larson managing to block the knees to the body from Jaa.
Jaa tries to land knees in the clinch but Larson avoids the damage to the body. Jaa is working for takedown but Larson is calmly controlling the position for now. Jaa darts in and clinches Larson up against the cage. Larson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Jaa breaks from the clinch.

Jaa works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jaa tries to free his leg and advance position but Larson is retaining full guard. Jaa wanted to stand there but Larson had control of the position. Larson keeping moving, preventing Jaa from controlling successfully. Larson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Larson is trying to keep Jaa in close.

It connects and Larson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Jaa shoots in looking for a takedown. Larson tries to sprawl out of it but Jaa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Larson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Larson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jaa swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jaa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Larson wants to pass the guard but Jaa is keeping the position. Larson wants to control from the top but Jaa keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jaa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Larson is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jaa has his feet on Larson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Jaa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Larson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Jaa closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Jaa is trying to control. Larson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Jaa keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Larson trying to hold on to Jaa's head to control him but Jaa postures up.
Larson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jaa haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Jaa is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tony Jaa. Well Jaa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
