The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn shoots and misses
and Penn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
McPhee throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
McPhee stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Penn has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Penn there as he acknowledges the shot.

It looks like Jay Penn has been cut.

and McPhee counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Pernell McPhee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Penn.
Penn gets cracked with a nice right hand there by McPhee.
McPhee catches Penn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Penn on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

McPhee clinches up with Penn and pushes him back against the cage.
McPhee lands with a short shot to the head.
McPhee throws an elbow that misses.

McPhee's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
McPhee lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Penn tries to score a body lock takedown but McPhee shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Penn wants to take the fight to the mat but McPhee manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

McPhee escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by McPhee which made him look bad.

Penn takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Penn fails to land the takedown.
Penn misses with a takedown
and McPhee counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Penn off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - McPhee follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Penn was out before he hit the floor.
