Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sebastian Kowalski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Davis Davies! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Kowalski looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kowalski misses with a head kick.
Davies shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Davies lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Kowalski is trying to stand up here but Davies is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kowalski makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Kowalski is looking to clinch. Sebastian Kowalski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kowalski throws a right and a left that Davies avoids nicely. Kowalski tries to clinch and Davies counters by clinching up. Davies works on Kowalski's body with a couple of short punches. Kowalski misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Davies.
Davies doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Kowalski has Davies pressed against the cage, preventing Davies from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Kowalski working aggressively here.
Davies blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kowalski throws a punch but it's blocked by Davies. Davies slowing the pace effectively.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davies escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kowalski has taken the fight to the clinch.
Davies ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Davies no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Kowalski wants to get up but he can't break Davies's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Davies had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kowalski defends it easily. Davies throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Davies has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kowalski has passed into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Davies's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kowalski tries to stand but Davies is controlling his head. Davies is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davies has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Kowalski. Oh but Davies has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Kowalski goes limp - he's gone! Davies jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Davis Davies! Davis Davies decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
