PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Baeumer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevin King told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Baeumer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kevin King!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from King - that will leave a mark!

King gets caught flat footed, as Baeumer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King working a defensive guard here.
Baeumer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Baeumer postures up.
Baeumer won't allow King to sweep him here.
King is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
King wants to sweep but no luck.
Baeumer won't allow King to get back to his feet.

King has an active guard here but Baeumer has managed to pass into half guard.
Baeumer could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
King trying to control here.
Baeumer takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Baeumer keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
King is looking to control Baeumer's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can King avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Baeumer performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Paul Baeumer just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
King looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Baeumer fails to land with a series of punches.
King tries to clinch but Baeumer moves out of range.
Paul Baeumer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Baeumer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
King is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Baeumer is controlling him.
Baeumer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Baeumer is breathing heavily.

King has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Baeumer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for King.
King wants to control but Baeumer postures up.
King is trying to buck Baeumer off.
King is looking for a sweep.
King is trying to control Baeumer's posture but Baeumer avoids it.
Baeumer is staying tight to King's torso, preventing him from escaping.
King is trying to control Baeumer's posture but Baeumer avoids it.
King tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
King tries to bench press Baeumer off him but Baeumer keeps the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
King misses with the combination.
Baeumer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but King swivels and escapes.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Baeumer moves out of range easily.

Baeumer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. King looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
King tries to control but Baeumer manages to take his back.
Baeumer lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Baeumer controls the action.
King tries to break free.

King won't enjoy being in this position. Baeumer looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - King is tapping - it's over boys! Baeumer picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Paul Baeumer!
