The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nakayawa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nakayawa showed some decent athleticism there. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Nakayawa thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Nakayawa wants to pass to mount but Briggs is defending the position. Nakayawa throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Briggs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nakayawa is working away from the top position though. Briggs blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nakayawa. Nakayawa controlling the action here. Nakayawa lands with a punch from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nakayawa content to control rather than advance. Nakayawa wants to take a breather but Briggs is having none of it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Briggs throws a sloppy head kick and Nakayawa moves out of range easily. Briggs is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Briggs connects with a leg kick. Nakayawa looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Nice sprawl there from Briggs as Nakayawa shoots in. Nakayawa shoots in for a takedown but Briggs shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Briggs displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nakayawa. Stacey Briggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yoshin Nakayawa. Briggs shoots in for a takedown but Nakayawa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Briggs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Nakayawa drives through with a takedown into Briggs's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Nakayawa working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Briggs's head. Nakayawa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nakayawa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Nakayawa trying to control the position from guard on top but Briggs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nakayawa wants to get up but he can't break Briggs's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Nakayawa trying to control but Briggs is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Briggs keeping full guard, as Nakayawa tries to pass. Nakayawa postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Briggs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Nakayawa's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Nakayawa throwing strikes from guard but Briggs blocks nicely. Nakayawa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Briggs swivels though and keeps the full guard. Nakayawa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nakayawa trying to control but Briggs is working from the bottom. Nakayawa throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Briggs works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Nakayawa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Nakayawa trying to control the position from guard on top but Briggs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Yoshin Nakayawa was stalling too much, according to the referee. Briggs dives in and grabs Nakayawa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nakayawa pushes down on Briggs's head and hops out. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nakayawa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Briggs looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nakayawa lands an elbow. Briggs is looking to regain half guard here but Nakayawa keeps moving and retains side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yoshin Nakayawa dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Nakayawa tries to score a power double leg takedown but Briggs sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nakayawa somewhat. Stacey Briggs is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Nakayawa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Briggs napping and manages to drive through into side control! Briggs is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Briggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Nakayawa working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Nakayawa cracks Briggs with a big elbow. Nakayawa throws an elbow but Briggs slips to the side and avoids it well. Yoshin Nakayawa has got the better of the ground game so far. Briggs is trying to get back to half guard. You can see the frustration on Briggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Briggs is looking for a sweep. Nakayawa lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Briggs down.
Nakayawa lands a nice forearm strike. Check out the look on Nakayawa's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nakayawa wants to control but Briggs is keeping him busy. Nakayawa working the head with strikes. Briggs takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Briggs is rocked! Nakayawa scores with a couple of short elbows. Oh Briggs is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Nakayawa scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Briggs is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Nakayawa can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
