PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Terry Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Terry Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Alexander!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Alexander tries to clinch but Black moves out of range.

Alexander gets the takedown into side control.
Alexander postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Alexander has control of an arm but Black manages to advance to Alexander's back!
Black struggling to keep hold of the position.

Black looking for the RNC.
Alexander has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Black trying to control.
Alexander really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Black. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Alexander wants to get back to his feet.
Black will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Good control from Black.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here.

Alexander defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Alexander controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Black gets his hands free as Alexander looks to control.

Black looking for the choke from the back.

Black controlling well, preventing Alexander from escaping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alexander avoids the strikes from Black.
Black missing with strikes.
Alexander breaks Black's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Black is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Alexander misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Black.
Alexander fails with the takedown.
Alexander closes the distance but Black moves to the side
and Alexander takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alexander.
Black shoots in looking for a takedown but Alexander manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Black's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Black really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Alexander takes one to the side of the head.

Alexander takes the fight into the clinch.

Alexander pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Alexander tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Black manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Alexander scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Alexander is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Black defends it well.
Chris Alexander has got the better of the ground game so far.
Black regains full guard. Nicely done.
Alexander is breathing heavily.
Alexander wants to stand and escape but instead Black has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Black trying to control the position from guard on top but Alexander is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Black drops back looking for a leg! Alexander is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alexander manages to kick Black off! Black jumps back into Alexander's guard.
Black wants to stand but Alexander has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Black pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alexander is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alexander wants to get back to his feet but Black is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Black postures up in Alexander's guard and throws a big left but Alexander blocks it.
Black working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Alexander wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Black manages to pass to side control.
Alexander preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Black is looking to advance position but Alexander won't allow it.
Black tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Alexander.
Black not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Terry Black will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Black takes the fight into the clinch.
Alexander lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Alexander tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Black jumps guard but Alexander stands there with Black around his waist. Black gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Black blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Black is looking to break free of the clinch but Alexander has double underhooks.

Alexander escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Black connects with a single shot there.
Alexander shoots in but no luck this time.
Alexander tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Alexander fails with the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Black is defended easily by Alexander.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Black.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Black shoots for a takedown but Alexander saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Alexander tries to clinch but Black is having none of it.
Black shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Alexander defends it nicely.

Alexander closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Black has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Alexander avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Black prevents a takedown attempt there.
Alexander takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Black is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Black softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Black looking to slow down the pace here.

Alexander gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Black regains guard.

Alexander avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Black manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alexander manages to get himself to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Black stops Alexander from standing up.
Alexander keeping full guard, as Black tries to pass.
Alexander looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Black slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Terry Black just wasn't active enough.
Black shoots in but no luck this time.
Chris Alexander has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Black misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Black keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Alexander.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Terry Black.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Black, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
