Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guy Cotton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Kanye West kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cotton is trying hard to land a takedown here. James sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Cotton tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. James wants to clinch up but Cotton keeps it at a distance. Cotton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with James, pushing him back against the cage. Cotton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. James jabs at Cotton's body. Cotton keeps the fight on the outside. James fails with a takedown attempt. Jon James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. James gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cotton to score an easy takedown into full guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Cotton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. James trying to keep a closed guard but Cotton is proving a slippery customer.

We're going to have a standup here because Guy Cotton wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cotton but Cotton pushes him off and we're back to square one. James looks winded! Cotton has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James throws an elbow but it's blocked.
James keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Cotton's efforts to push away. James tries to pull guard but Cotton forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Guy Cotton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon James. Cotton ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cotton no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Cotton striking off his back but it's not causing James any problems. James trying to control the position from guard on top but Cotton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cotton is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Cotton looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Cotton drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. James tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cotton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Cotton cracks James with a big right hand but James just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
James looks to move to half guard but instead Cotton has passed into mount! Damn! Cotton content just to control the position here. Cotton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cotton landing strikes from the mount. James taking shots to the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cotton working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Cotton content just to control the position here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The referee warns James that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

James shoots in looking for a takedown but Cotton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing James's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. James misses with a two punch combination.
Cotton bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Cotton darts in and clinches James up against the cage. James is fighting off a takedown attempt but Cotton is just too persistent for him and manages to trip James to the mat. James regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Cotton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Cotton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Cotton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now. James is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Cotton engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Guy Cotton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. James fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cotton avoids it really well and circles away. Cotton closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cotton wants to get back to his feet.

He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. James tries to clinch up. Cotton looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for James! Cotton wants to lay and pray for a moment but James keeps working. Both fighters are breathing heavily. James is pushing Cotton's head away, looking to escape. Cotton manages to hold on to the position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cotton lands a decent elbow from side control. James is looking to reverse the position. Cotton grinds an elbow into James's temple. Cotton controls the position. Cotton tries to stand but James is controlling his head. Cotton remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Check out the look on Cotton's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
