Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mateus Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Aaron Davidson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mateus Gracie! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davidson avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Davidson lands a head kick. Gracie smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Gracie stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Davidson throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it. Gracie dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Gracie feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Davidson's calf. Gracie throws a hook but Davidson avoids it easily. Gracie throws a leg kick but Davidson sees it coming and checks it nicely. Gracie scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Gracie pivots, looking for a leg kick but Davidson is out of range and Gracie settles back down. This has been an exciting period of action! Davidson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gracie has time to react. Davidson checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Davidson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Gracie staying out of range there. Davidson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Davidson throws a good cross that connects.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Davidson throws a low kick but Gracie avoids it. Gracie scores with a crisp jab that stopped Davidson in his tracks. Davidson misses with a head kick.

Davidson throws a shot from downtown. Gracie moves away and avoids it. Gracie is looking to chop away at Davidson's legs. Gracie thumps Davidson with a low kick. Gracie tries for a takedown but Davidson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. The fighters circling - Davidson throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Davidson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Davidson clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage. Gracie working some nice short punches in the clinch. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Davidson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davidson misses with a body punch.
Davidson lands a hook to the side of the head. Gracie breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Davidson looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range. Davidson fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Gracie thows a body shot but no joy. Gracie lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Aaron Davidson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gracie misses with an uppercut. Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Davidson lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into range. Davidson tries a low kick but Gracie avoids it. Davidson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Davidson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Aaron Davidson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mateus Gracie.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A shot to the body from Davidson misses and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Davidson keeps working. Gracie is looking for a kimura here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davidson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though. Davidson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie thows a huge punch but Davidson dodges it nicely.
Gracie is trying to work for a kimura but Davidson is defending well.
Davidson moves into full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gracie throwing strikes but missing. Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Davidson is retaining full guard. Davidson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Gracie is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Gracie working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Gracie throws an elbow that misses. Davidson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gracie's guard. Nice move by Davidson! Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Davidson postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Aaron Davidson will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Gracie misses with a straight right. Gracie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Davidson was covering up waiting for the punch and Gracie finishes the takedown easily into guard. Davidson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.
Davidson throws a big right hand that misses. Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davidson is aware though and is defending well. Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy. Gracie looking for a guillotine here but Davidson defends easily.
Gracie has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Davidson should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Gracie has tightened it up now! Davidson should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
