Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
44 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cael Sanderson Bot! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez throws a right and a left that both miss. Bot takes a swing at Mendez's ribcage but misses. A shot to the liver by Bot. Beautiful body shot. Tony Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mendez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bot was well out of range. Poor timing from Mendez. Mendez tries to bum rush Bot with a series of wild strikes but Bot uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mendez throws a jab but it's blocked by Bot. Mendez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bot as he jumps to the side. Bot comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Bot lunges at Mendez with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Mendez's hand. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bot throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A shot to the body from Mendez misses and Bot counters with a takedown into side control. Bot works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Mendez is rocked! Bot throws an elbow but Mendez slips to the side and avoids it well. Bot throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez regains half guard, as Bot was trying to land strikes. Bot is nestled in close to Mendez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Oh Mendez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Bot controlling the position here and throwing strikes from the top. Nice elbow lands there... and another... and another... oh, Mendez is out! Bot gets to his feet and admires his work - nice finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Cael Sanderson Bot! Cael Sanderson Bot gave a mention to CEC Nutrition Q160 in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales). In defeat, Tony Mendez stepped up to the mic, saying 'Hey guys, I wanted to thank you all for the time and love. I didn't want to retire without fighting Toast. So, this was my last fight. Thank you very very much!'.
