Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyron Melvin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bowens! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bowens throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Melvin gets a double leg takedown into Bowens's guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Melvin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Melvin engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Melvin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bowens is keeping the position for now. Bowens looking to hit a scissor sweep but Melvin is one step ahead there. Bowens trying to keep a closed guard but Melvin is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. A momentary lapse in concentration from Bowens enables Melvin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bowens manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Melvin trying to control but Bowens is working from the bottom. Melvin is looking to work some ground and pound but Bowens has wrist control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bowens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Melvin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Bowens tries to land a sweep but no joy. Melvin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bowens swivels though and keeps the full guard. Melvin trying to control the position from guard on top but Bowens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bowens working for a triangle but Melvin defends it easily.

Bowens has his foot on Melvin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Melvin works his way back into a safe position though. Melvin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bowens's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Melvin trying to control from half guard but Bowens is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melvin trying to pass the guard but Bowens defending well. Melvin thows a huge punch but Bowens dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Melvin wants to pass the guard but Bowens is defending well. Melvin wants to work for an arm triangle but Bowens is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bowens is not content to let Melvin control the position. Bowens is trying to get back to full guard. Melvin is keen to just control but Bowens is a slippery customer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Bowens tries to roll over but Melvin keeps him under control. Bowens is staying active underneath Melvin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tyron Melvin. Melvin stalks Bowens and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bowens's face. Bowens staggers backwards, shaken. Bowens lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
It looks like Tyron Melvin has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bowens misses with a two punch combination.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Melvin plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Bowens pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Bowens misses with an uppercut. Melvin saw that one coming. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bowens tries to sprawl but Melvin drives through with a takedown into half guard. Tyron Melvin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Bowens is trying to get back to full guard. Melvin wants to control but Bowens is keeping him busy. Bowens regains full guard. Nicely done. Melvin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Melvin is looking to work some ground and pound but Bowens has wrist control. Melvin looking to sit in guard and control but Bowens gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bowens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melvin swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bowens controlling from the top position. Bowens trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Melvin manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bowens managing to control the position. Bowens is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref stands the fighters back up. James Bowens was stalling too much, according to the referee. Bowens gets caught flat footed, as Melvin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Bowens throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Melvin escapes and throws Bowens's legs to the side, diving into side control! Melvin wants to control but Bowens is keeping him busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bowens is looking to regain half guard here but Melvin keeps moving and retains side control. Melvin wants to control but Bowens is keeping him busy. Melvin passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Bowens! Melvin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Bowens is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melvin swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Bowens is now in Melvin's guard. A big mistake from Melvin there, giving up the dominant position! Melvin throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Bowens ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Melvin moves away. Melvin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bowens looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Bowens tries to bench press Melvin off him but Melvin keeps the position. Bowens is not content to let Melvin control the position. Bowens manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Melvin is looking to take a break and control but Bowens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Melvin is really struggling to control Bowens but he's trying to hold on to the position. Melvin is pressing down on Bowens's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bowens is holding on for now. Melvin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bowens!

Bowens moves to back control. Bowens goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Melvin escapes and is now in half guard on top. Bowens desperately trying to maintain half guard.

James Bowens has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Melvin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Melvin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tyron Melvin. Well Melvin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
