Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Brendan Merlo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jacques De Molay! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merlo takes one to the chin there. Molay lands a nice shot that snaps Merlo's head back.
Merlo on the wrong end of a nice hook. Merlo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Molay is trying to defend but Merlo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Molay wants to get back to his feet. Merlo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Merlo stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. A left and a right from Molay both land. Nice combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merlo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Molay.
Jacques De Molay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Merlo takes the fight into the clinch. Molay wants to get back to striking at distance but Merlo won't allow it.
A frustrated look appears on Molay's face as he tries to break the clinch. Merlo lands a knee to the body.
Molay is fighting off a takedown attempt but Merlo is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Molay to the mat. Molay regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Molay looks winded! Molay is working an open guard so Merlo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Merlo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Molay did well to prevent Merlo getting side control. Merlo with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merlo gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Merlo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Molay looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Molay being controlled for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merlo stands up. Merlo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Molay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Merlo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Merlo is working to tighten his grip on Molay's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Molay has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Merlo is really squeezing tight and eventually Molay passes out! Merlo breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Brendan Merlo! Brendan Merlo tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
