Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Yuya Shimizu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maxim Zavalishin! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zavalishin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Shimizu throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Zavalishin scores with a nice body kick.
Zavalishin throws a push kick but Shimizu slaps the foot to one side. Shimizu lands a nice shot that snaps Zavalishin's head back.
Zavalishin throws a leg kick but Shimizu checks it. Shimizu throws a nice inside leg kick. A big right from Shimizu misses. Good work by Shimizu as he checks the leg kick. Shimizu fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Shimizu throws a nice inside leg kick. Zavalishin moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Zavalishin misses with a leg kick and Shimizu counters with a good low kick that Zavalishin was not able to check. Shimizu throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Zavalishin looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Shimizu moves out of range of the body kick. Shimizu throws a leg kick but Zavalishin sees it coming and moves out of range. Zavalishin looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zavalishin throws a right hand that misses
and Shimizu counters with a nice leg kick. Zavalishin checks a leg kick nicely. Shimizu checks a leg kick. Zavalishin misses with an attempted mid kick.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Shimizu lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Shimizu lands a right hand. Shimizu lands a body punch. Zavalishin tries to pull guard but Shimizu forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Zavalishin is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Shimizu lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Zavalishin backwards. Shimizu scores with a nice hook to the head. Zavalishin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Yuya Shimizu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maxim Zavalishin. A quick uppercut on the inside from Shimizu. Shimizu lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shimizu lands a right hand that snaps the head of Zavalishin backwards.
Zavalishin is rocked! Shimizu lands with a light punch inside. Zavalishin is still on wobbly legs! Can Shimizu finish him? Shimizu scores with a shot to the side of Zavalishin's head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shimizu blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Shimizu can't find room to land a body shot as Zavalishin controls the action.

A shot in the inside from Shimizu. Zavalishin jumps guard but Shimizu stands there with Zavalishin around his waist. Zavalishin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Zavalishin is trying to pull guard but Shimizu has him pressed against the cage. Shimizu lands a nice uppercut. Shimizu lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Shimizu throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Zavalishins head. Shimizu managing to block the knees to the body from Zavalishin.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Shimizu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. A nice left hand lands by Shimizu.
Zavalishin has had enough of the clinch but Shimizu keeps him there for the moment. Shimizu dips a shoulder and cracks Zavalishin with a mighty uppercut! Zavalishin falls back against the cage and Shimizu unloads with a barrage of strikes! Zavalishin is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Shimizu screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yuya Shimizu! An out of breath Yuya Shimizu thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
