Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohammed Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mohammed Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Velasquez is looking to advance position but Hunter won't allow it.
Hunter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hunter trying to control but Velasquez postures up.
Hunter regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hunter pulls Velasquez in to control the position.
Velasquez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hunter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Velasquez defends it easily.
Hunter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Velasquez is controlling him.
Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Velasquez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Velasquez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hunter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Velasquez has Hunter in his guard.

Hunter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Hunter stands up and waves to Velasquez to follow him.
Hunter dives in for a single leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hunter tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Velasquez smiles and moves away.

and Hunter counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Hunter shoots in looking for a takedown but Velasquez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hunter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mohammed Hunter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hunter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Hunter gets through Velasquez's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Hunter changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Velasquez fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Velasquez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hunter paws at him with a jab and circles away.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velasquez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hunter smiles and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cain Velasquez will probably get the nod.

Hunter goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Hunter dives in and grabs Velasquez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Velasquez pushes down on Hunter's head and hops out.
Velasquez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hunter shoots in and drives through. Velasquez sprawls well.
Hunter shoots in for a takedown but Velasquez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Velasquez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Velasquez seems to be working for a kimura but Hunter defends the submission attempt.
Velasquez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Velasquez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Velasquez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hunter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Velasquez but great work by Hunter.

Hunter thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Velasquez dodges the ground and pound from Hunter.
Velasquez is looking to regain half guard here but Hunter keeps moving and retains side control.
Velasquez can't do much from the bottom here.
Hunter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Hunter throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Hunter throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Velasquez because Hunter loaded up on that one.

Hunter is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Velasquez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Velasquez shrugs it off.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Velasquez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Cain Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

You can see the frustration on Hunter's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Velasquez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hunter is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Velasquez.
Hunter wants to control but Velasquez is keeping him busy.
Velasquez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hunter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hunter has the hooks in. Velasquez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Velasquez is trying to remain composed but Hunter is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Velasquez looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
