Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steven Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jia Xiong!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Xiong fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Aoki to the ground. Xiong is now in Aoki's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aoki working a defensive guard here.
Aoki preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Aoki will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Xiong controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Xiong trying to control but Aoki is working from the bottom.
Xiong controlling from the top position.
Aoki controls Xiong momentarily but Xiong frees himself.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Steven Aoki just wasn't active enough.
Aoki shoots in looking for a takedown. Xiong tries to sprawl out of it but Aoki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Xiong manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Xiong shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Aoki is trying to defend but Xiong finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Xiong seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Xiong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Aoki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Aoki on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Xiong scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Xiong in particular looking to stall.
Aoki is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Xiong pulls his head out easily.
Xiong wants to pass to mount but Aoki is defending the position.

Aoki wants to get back to full guard.
Aoki gets full guard.
Xiong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Xiong is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Aoki has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Xiong is looking to defend but Aoki has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Xiong! Aoki pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Xiong taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Steven Aoki!
