Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sync Fowler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ivan Fjeldsted! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fjeldsted throws a head kick that misses. We've been told by Fowler's head coaches at Combat Sports Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Fowler blocks a head kick by Fjeldsted.
Fowler tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fjeldsted sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fowler somewhat. A swing and a miss from Fjeldsted. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fowler is defended easily by Fjeldsted. Fowler shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Fjeldsted counters with a nice uppercut. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sync Fowler. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fjeldsted fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Fowler has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Fjeldsted darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Fjeldsted throws a sloppy head kick and Fowler moves out of range easily. Fowler scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Fjeldsted is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Fowler is pressing down on Fjeldsted's thigh, looking to free his foot. Fjeldsted is holding on for now. Fjeldsted slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Fjeldsted wants to sweep here but Fowler controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fowler drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fjeldsted manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fowler has Fjeldsted in his guard. Fowler looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Fjeldsted puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Fjeldsted is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Fowler is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
