PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sergio Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamarcus Winters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar comes to the cage accompanied by Disturbed - Stricken. The crowd seem to be enjoying Winters's choice of entrance music: The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Winters throws a series of punches but Lesnar avoids them all with ease.

Lesnar has closed the distance and engaged Winters in a clinch.
Lesnar crunches a lovely knee into Winters's ribcage.
A bit of stalling here from Winters.
Lesnar lands with a left to the head.

Lesnar has clasped his hands together around Winters's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Lesnar lands a nice hook to Winters's body. Winters takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Lesnar moves out of range as Winters throws a body kick.
Winters tries to land a leg kick but Lesnar saw it coming and moves away.
Jamarcus Winters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Winters has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Winters there as he acknowledges the shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Winters enables Lesnar to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Winters manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Winters is on top in guard.

Lesnar had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Winters defends it easily.
Lesnar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Lesnar is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Winters has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Winters!

Lesnar wants to control but Winters is keeping him busy.

Lesnar seems to be working for a kimura but Winters defends the submission attempt.
Lesnar is taking a breather. Winters says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Winters felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Lesnar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are battling for position here. Winters manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Lesnar is pushing down on Winters's leg trying to pass to half guard. Winters is fighting to maintain full guard but Lesnar has managed to sneak the leg through.
Winters wants to improve his position but Lesnar is controlling well.

Lesnar is looking for a kimura but Winters is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lesnar to get the leverage.

Lesnar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Winters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lesnar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lesnar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lesnar throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Winters tries to stall but Lesnar uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Lesnar can't find room to land a body shot as Winters controls the action.

Lesnar is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Winters knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Winters is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lesnar wants to control but Winters is keeping him busy.

Lesnar is working to tighten his grip on Winters's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Winters has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Lesnar is really squeezing tight and eventually Winters passes out! Lesnar breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Sergio Lesnar!
After the fight, Sergio Lesnar was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
