Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, NaKai Mariner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Wrestler! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wrestler swats away the attempt to clinch by Mariner. Wrestler fails with a takedown attempt. Mariner takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Wrestler fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mariner avoids it really well and circles away. Wrestler shoots in and gets a takedown into Mariner's guard. Wrestler controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mariner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wrestler on the ground. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mariner is looking to sweep but instead, Wrestler has passed into half guard.
Wrestler is taking a breather. Mariner says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wrestler is pressing down on Mariner's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mariner is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wrestler stands up and beckons Mariner to join him on the feet. Mariner throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Mariner throws a combination that misses and Wrestler counters with a shoot takedown. Mariner fights it but they end up in guard. Wrestler is pushing down on Mariner's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mariner is fighting to maintain full guard but Wrestler has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wrestler not doing much here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mariner taking some punishment here, with Wrestler in his half guard. Mariner tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Wrestler decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Wrestler tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mariner defends well and Wrestler ends up having to push Mariner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. NaKai Mariner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Wrestler. Wrestler's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Wrestler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mariner paws at him with a jab and circles away. Wrestler lands a head kick!
Mariner gets cracked there but stands up to it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mariner lands with a cross. Wrestler clinches with his opponent.
Mariner is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Wrestler breaks the clinch.
Mariner throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Wrestler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mariner! Wrestler trying to control the action but Mariner is working from the bottom. Wrestler slows the pace down.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wrestler tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wrestler in side control lands a decent elbow. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wrestler has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! The fight stays on the outside here - Wrestler looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Mariner shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wrestler sprawls well. Wrestler wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mariner gets slowly back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bob Wrestler dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Wrestler rushes Mariner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Mariner is defending well against a takedown attempt. Wrestler fails to pull guard.
Mariner breaks the clinch.
A good leg kick by Wrestler. Mariner scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Wrestler fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wrestler tries to clinch there but Mariner circles away.
Wrestler has a takedown stuffed. NaKai Mariner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Wrestler. Mariner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wrestler was well out of range. Poor timing from Mariner.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wrestler tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mariner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Wrestler shoots in and drives through. Mariner sprawls well. Mariner displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wrestler. Wrestler is breathing heavily. Wrestler fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mariner avoids it really well and circles away. Mariner instigates a clinch. Mariner tightens his grip and picks Wrestler up, before dumping him to the ground. Wrestler manages to land in guard. Wrestler has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Mariner is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Mariner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. NaKai Mariner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Wrestler fails with a takedown attempt. Mariner misses with a head kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wrestler shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mariner pinned against the cage. Mariner gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Wrestler darts in looking for a takedown but Mariner gets double underhooks and turns Wrestler into the cage. Wrestler drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A right hook to the body lands for Mariner.
Mariner softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Mariner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Mariner shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wrestler is trying to defend but Mariner finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mariner working Wrestler over with strikes. Mariner tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Wrestler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mariner looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Mariner throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Wrestler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mariner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mariner's back! Wrestler is persistently looking for the submission but Mariner is defending it well.
Wrestler avoiding Mariner 's attempts to control his hands. Bob Wrestler has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mariner rolls, trying to escape but Wrestler keeps control of the position.
Mariner trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Wrestler is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Mariner has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. I would not like to be Mariner right now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wrestler missing with punches from the back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that NaKai Mariner will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Wrestler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mariner throws a sloppy head kick and Wrestler moves out of range easily. Mariner circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wrestler fails with a takedown attempt. Wrestler looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mariner is fending him off so far but Wrestler persists. Nope, Mariner circles away and we're back to standing. Wrestler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A punch lands to the side of Wrestler 's head but he takes it in his stride. Wrestler tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mariner defends well and Wrestler ends up having to push Mariner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. NaKai Mariner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Wrestler. Wrestler takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mariner wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wrestler tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mariner smiles and moves away.
Bob Wrestler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mariner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
That's one minute gone in the round. A left and a right from Mariner both land. Nice combination. Mariner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Nice sprawl there from Wrestler as Mariner shoots in. Some wild striking there from Mariner.
Mariner lands a nice shot that snaps Wrestler's head back.
Wrestler closes the distance and clinches up with Mariner, looking for a takedown. Wrestler pushes Mariner against the cage but Mariner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Wrestler moves in looking to clinch but Mariner pushes him off. Mariner stuffs the takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mariner lands with a nice combination. Wrestler backs away looking to recover. Mariner tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Good shot there by Mariner. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Wrestler falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mariner counters with a straight right hand. Mariner lands with a nice combination. Wrestler backs away looking to recover. Mariner tries to score with a low kick but Wrestler moves his leg out of the way. Wrestler wants to land a leg kick but Mariner is out of range. NaKai Mariner is winning the standup battle so far. Wrestler shoots in for a double leg but Mariner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A combination from Mariner does no damage. Mariner scores with a jab to the jaw.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mariner dives in and grabs Wrestler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wrestler pushes down on Mariner's head and hops out. Mariner lands with a nice combination. Wrestler backs away looking to recover. Mariner fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Wrestler checks it well. Wrestler keeps Mariner at a distance using the push kick. Wrestler is looking to clinch but Mariner is avoiding it.
Mariner lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Wrestler backs up against the cage.
Wrestler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mariner paws at him with a jab and circles away. Mariner pivots, looking for a leg kick but Wrestler is out of range and Mariner settles back down. Mariner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mariner closes the distance and lands a one-two. Wrestler shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wrestler showed some decent athleticism there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wrestler tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mariner. Wrestler is working for a kimura but Mariner is defending it quite comfortably.
Wrestler decides to stand up.
And that's the end of the fight! NaKai Mariner showed his dominance in that final round. I think Mariner has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
