1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Goodwell! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz gets the takedown into side control. Diaz trying to control the action but Goodwell is working from the bottom. Diaz is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Goodwell is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Goodwell tries to escape but Diaz is in control. Diaz scores with a couple of short elbows. Goodwell looks gassed! Diaz is putting a hurting on Goodwell here, landing some big shots from side control. Goodwell is not content to let Diaz control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goodwell prevents Diaz from moving into mount. Diaz landing strikes. Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Goodwell is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Diaz asserts his dominance and retains side control. Diaz scores with a couple of short elbows. Diaz advances to full mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Diaz with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Goodwell is surviving well by controlling Diaz's body position as best he can. Diaz postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Goodwell looks a forlorn figure.

This has been an exciting period of action! Diaz is working for a guillotine from mount but Goodwell frees his head quite easily.
Diaz swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
